The Venezuela Thread

A lot of the oil listed from Malaysia is really from Venezuela. In any case, China's oil demand is coming down fast due to their vehicle fleets going electric. They have been expanding their energy production like gangbusters with nuclear, hydro, solar and in a couple of years more natural gas through the Power of Siberia pipeline.

Yeah, I know. It's bundled together with Iranian and lately some of the Russian oil - sanctioned oil is transferred at sea to "clean" tankers and resold as Malaysian. But considering the relatively low output of Venezuelan oil industry, it's just a drop in the bucket of Chinese demand so I don't expect any backlash coming from them.

It could get a lot worse, civil war. There is a large faction of the Chavistas that will not accept the next US-appointed government. 5+ million refugees. That is the worst case scenario, and I don't think you can dismiss it.

Consider that it could have been (most likely was) an inside job, and Maduro is succeeded by someone from his inner circle who already has a firm grip on security forces.

At some point in the mid 21st century, China will just roll into eastern Russia and take what they want anyway. Easier than fighting everyone else.

As long as this Venezuela gambit fits into a larger American N/S alignment between these continents, I'm okay with it.

Profits from Venezuelan oil could/should offset the costs.
You think so? Like when all of our gas prices went down for all of time after we invaded Iraq and plundered their oil and then also used that to pay for the forever wars? My guess is any financial benefits will be reaped by somebody else while Joe American still foots the bill for any forthcoming projects.

That's why I said "could/should".

China can't even invade Vietnam, let alone a country with 4,000 nuclear warheads. It's a nation of pragmatic traders and merchants, not warmongers.

By the middle of this century, electricity will be too cheap to meter, to paraphrase Nikola Tesla, with thorium and fusion coming online.

Long term energy infrastructure projects need political stability to operate.

There was something in the news about maybe 35 years ago, about break even fusion. For a short period of time scientists were very excited that they were getting close, but that didn’t happen yet.

I’m not saying it can’t or won’t. Even if we did perfect breakeven fusion and have unlimited energy., the military arms industrial complex would find something else to make wars over, they’re not just going to give up that revenue stream

Edit, my point was, we don’t know if the unlimited energy is 2 years away or 20 years away or 200 years away or never

Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska warns that if the US secures control over Venezuela’s oil fields, after already moving into Guyana, it could end up overseeing more than half of the world’s reserves. In his view, Washington would then be able to hold oil prices near $50 a barrel, putting serious pressure on Russia’s state-capitalist economic model.

Both pretexts are QAnon-level complete bunk. It's all about the oil, resources and Monroe Doctrine.
Trump is head on confronting the drug cartels in this hemisphere for a handful of reasons. Please do not attempt to connect me with Q conspiracy theorists. We can start a new thread about the role of drug cartel influence on elections and election 'companies' and I think it would be eye opening to many.
I am aware of what Trump has been briefed about regarding cartels.

Colombia next ?
