NBA Gambling Ring (Terry Rozier & Chauncey Billups) Thread

When Mahomes had a sprained ankle and was hopping on one foot at the end of the game, and still scored?

I have to admit that was fishy. The older I get, the more I realize things that I took for granted in the past were actually manipulated or rigged.
I remember watching the Nuggets in the NBA playoffs a couple years ago, where the Nuggets won overwhelmingly for the first 2 or 3 games, and then on the next game it's like they forgot how to play basketball at all! They lost by 40-50 points.

I always thought they were told to throw the game, so they were pissed about it and made it overwhelmingly blatant.

Watching the chefs Superbowl win a couple years ago should solidify that the NFL and professional sports is 100 percent rigged.

College ball is probably the last area yet to be rigged.
There’s been documented reports about game fixing in college basketball and also in European soccer. I’m pretty sure that any sports that have betting lines have been fixed. Agree, not all games, but it happens. Would love for all of it to get exposed and blow it all up. Corruption is corruption, and should be cleared out in a moral society.

College football is less likely due to the competing revenue to the schools via boosters I think.

How about the news article that this thread is about? Or the notorious fixing of the world series by Arnold Rothstein a hundred years ago?
A game is rigged when it's player props or an injury update isn't told, or guy held out of the game? No. Not even in these cases, though the actions aren't good for gambling or the league.

No one said the Black Sox thing also wasn't real, 1919. The claim is common and it is generally "The games are (all) rigged."

It's just not true.

But Pete Rose is banned from the hall of Fame for betting on himself

It’s been a good 30 or 40 years since I last looked at the rose case, but iirc he was manager and actively betting on the reds to win certain mlb regular season games. He was in a position to save his bullpen for certain days, or know exactly when a player was coming off the dl

The lifetime ban is good.

F*ck Pete rose. He was a real jackass after the fact, basically ultimately refused to admit any wrongdoing publically .

This recent nba gambling is a bit more recent but certainly not the only case if gambling in sports

Man you're like 2 for 2 recently... What's going on eradicator? ;)

Again, a little research before posting would help.

He bet on his team to win. It should be illegal for you to bet on your own team winning when you're the GM?

He didn't do shit wrong.

Why should he apologize?

A summary from the Google:

Pete Rose received a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball in 1989 for betting on games while he was the manager for the Cincinnati Reds. In May 2025, after his death in 2024, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred lifted the ban posthumously, removing Rose from the permanently ineligible list. This decision makes Rose eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, and his name will be considered by the Historical Overview Committee for a future ballot.

Reason for ban: An investigation by lawyer John Dowd found that from 1985 to 1987, Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win.

Posthumous reinstatement: In May 2025, Commissioner Manfred ruled that the permanent ineligibility ends upon the death of the disciplined individual. This removed Rose from the permanently ineligible list.

Get2choppaa, it’s like you didn’t even read any of it. Rose accepted the lifetime ban for betting on baseball while managing the reds. And you say he did nothing wrong…

Also rose was manager and never a Gm, no one ever said it was illegal to place bets with a bookmaker either in Vegas or online.

It is against the rules of mlb and I’ll explain it since your having trouble:

Point shaving, fixing games, going into debt to the mafia like the nba players and coaches who owed millions to bookmakers / mafia and are asked to shave points or throw a game in exchange for debt forgiveness is exactly why it’s wrong to bet on a game while you’re a coach or manager.

Either you’re trolling or you really are that foolish

Rose also had accusations of statutory rape, lost his broadcasting job over it

He also allotted to using a corked bat, and got involved with running cocaine

If you’re talking about criminal offenses yes he did five months in federal Jail for underreporting his taxes from 85-87

I'm neither trolling nor that foolish. From how I see it I find it categorically different to bet on your team winning games vs throwing games or getting into debt with the Mafia.

He basically bet on winning or losing on insider information about injuries. That's what he admitted too in 2004.

Otherwise they don't really have any proof he did much other than his rat friend rolling on him and some allegations.

He got banned because he allowed himself to because. He didn't get banned for throwing games.

My point is comparing Pete Rose to these folks is 2 different things.

But if you want to die on this hill go ahead. I'll not stop you.

I’d forgotten that Pete rose admitted to using a corked bat. Thst right there will keep him out of the hall of fame. And it’s the same reason Sosa and Albert belle will never get into the hall of fame.

There’s no way to tell if the player used a corked bat for only a few of their games, or a few thousand of their games. Once they are caught cheating or admit to cheating that’s it

Ok fair. But again we are comparing people doing things to help them win vs others rigging games to lose for money.

Almost nobody sees these as the same sorts of infractions.

I always found the phrase “control your own destiny” in sports to be stupid. Thing is, what could be more in control than intentionally losing ball games?

Pete was involved in a lot more than gambling: drug distribution, stat rape, cheating with a corked bat, tax evasion. The only thing he did time for was tax evasion

The gambling he did wasn’t against the law, the nba guys, good lord they are looking at federal charges
