I saw USS Enterprise (CVN-65) at sea in the Middle East in 2012 on her last deployment. She had been laid down in 1958 and commissioned in 1961...crazy.
Boeing's 707 took it's first commercial flight in 1956, now that's really crazy.
B-52 first flew in 1955 and is expected to be operational until the 2050s. That's crazy.
This was a great movie although the ending was disappointing. In some ways they had to do it that way, but everybody wanted to see things play out differently.
Edit: It's interesting to think how far technology has come since 1980, such that you'd think the Nimitz of that era was primitive, but it was super advanced compared to the Japanese and US forces of 1941. I wonder if a 2025 aircraft carrier could beat 1980 forces as badly as the 1980 Nimitz would have single handedly beaten the Kido Butai?
