Would anyone be interested in a Bible study group in 2025?

Okay, we've got half a dozen people interested, I think that's enough. Would this Bible reading plan work for you guys? I quite like it because it combines the old & new testament.

My 2 cents: a daily study is too high of a commitment to keep people engaged. A weekly study is much more manageable.

Fair enough. How about this? We read 3–4 chapters daily, and then we can discuss once a week. Since New Year’s Day falls on a Wednesday, we could do every Wednesday. Does that work for everyone?

I asked chatgpt to organise a reading schedule...

Those are really large chunks for a weekly Bible study. Genesis 1 through 23 for week 1? There is so much theological content in Genesis 1-3 alone that you could spend multiple weeks in there. I'm more used to the slower, more thorough combing through kind of study.

How would you like to do this study? Would you have a thread for it on this forum?

I was thinking we could use this thread. I originally planned to read The Bible in a year, but I’m open to adjusting the timeline. What pace do you think would work best for us?

I think that depends on the format. If it's like a read along where members chime in on a thread, then I have no precedent for how that will go, but I'm willing to find out. If that's the format, then maybe we could get away with a daily reading, maybe not.

What I do know is that in my weekly Bible study that I used to go to, we would meet once a week and read one chapter. Depending on the length, sometimes we wouldn't even get through one, sometimes we could get through two or three. And this was in a three hour session.

But that was in a local meet up kind of format, which is different then what it seems like we're going for here.

I'm starting to think that a quality Bible study might be too challenging to manage on this forum, with everyone's differing schedules and whatnot. Plus it'll be hard to dive deeply into theological analysis with such a quick reading pace.

I was really looking forward to it, especially to hear the views of a lot of the guys on this forum. However I do think that logistically it could be a little difficult.

I think we should give it a trial run. Maybe not come out swinging with a full blown Bible study plan over the course of a year, but a book study over the course of a month. We can divvy up a Gospel or something like Genesis over the course of a month.

I like this idea :) Does this work for everyone? I'm open to swapping out books.

January - Genesis
February - Isaiah
March - Exodus
April - John
May - Proverbs
June - Acts
July - 1 Samuel
August - Ecclesiastes
September - Romans
October - Daniel
November - Hebrews
December - Luke

You should ask chatgpt to work out a schedule for Genesis. If we were to study it twice a week then I think we could do it in a month.

Like this?

Week 1
Jan 1: Genesis 1–3 (Creation, the Fall)
Jan 4: Genesis 4–6 (Cain and Abel, Genealogies, The Flood begins)

Week 2
Jan 8: Genesis 7–9 (The Flood, Noahic Covenant)
Jan 11: Genesis 10–12 (Table of Nations, Tower of Babel, Call of Abram)

Week 3
Jan 15: Genesis 13–15 (Abram and Lot, God's Covenant with Abram)
Jan 18: Genesis 16–18 (Hagar and Ishmael, God's Promise to Sarah, Abraham Intercedes for Sodom)

Week 4
Jan 22: Genesis 19–21 (Sodom and Gomorrah, Birth of Isaac)
Jan 25: Genesis 22–24 (Sacrifice of Isaac, Marriage of Isaac and Rebekah)

Week 5
Jan 29: Genesis 25–27 (Jacob and Esau, Isaac Blesses Jacob)

So chatgpt made a mistake earlier (and I didn’t catch it either, oops!). I just realized that Genesis has 50 chapters, not 27. Given its length, do you think it would make sense to stretch the reading of Genesis over two months and remove Isaiah from the proposed plan?

Let me know your thoughts. I’m open to ideas!

It seems good to me to do Genesis start to finish, even if it costs another book in the schedule. Let's remain flexible with books down the pipeline and focus on Genesis. Clean our plate first. If it takes us two months for Genesis, so be it.

I really liked this plan of reading the entire Bible in a year. Couldn't a new thread be started weekly for discussion regarding that week's chapters?

An example thread title of, "Bible In A Year Week 14: Kings 1–22 Discussion". I realize you may not get the most in-depth discussion in a single week, but with it's own thread people can continue posting questions, and continue the discussion indefinitely if they wish.

Particularly interesting chapters may receive lots of posts weeks or months afterwards, but the group can continue moving forward weekly in their readings.

As someone who has never read the Bible front to back it's exciting to start this up with a plan to finish by the end of 2025.

I realize I can do this on my own, but this forum seems like a great place to do it as part of a group with good discussions.

However we proceed I am looking forward to being part of this, and I'd like to thank OP for his great idea!

Thanks! I agree that reading the entire Bible in a year sounds exciting. However, by focusing on one book per month, we will have more time for in-depth discussions, which will be more beneficial in helping us grow in wisdom, deepen our faith, and strengthen our walk with Christ. Which I think should be the goal.

I like your enthusiasm, and it's good to have you in this group :)
