This is a thread for talking about the Baptist denomination specifically. It can be a place for posting content related to the Baptist Church, discussing what makes the Baptist Church distinct, and what experiences you've had at any Baptist Churches.
Im curious about this denomination particularly as of late. Ive been making a greater effort to check out more churches in my area over the past few months. Well, sort of. I quickly found a Baptist Church nearby and have been attending regularly for about 2 months now. Everyone has been very welcoming. There is a sermon that is always based on the Bible. Sometimes there's grape juice communion, which is kinda funny I guess, but hey there's kids around. After the sermon which always includes 2 traditional hymns and a lecture based on a few related Bible verses, there's a lunch put together by the Church as a sort of giant potluck.
I've hit it off with a guy I met there who's apparently the only other young guy that goes there most Sundays. We almost immediately got to talking about all the stuff that's talked about around this forum- conspiracy theories(mostly involving Isreal), the "war of northern aggression," 'War is a Racket,' etc. Its safe to say I've made a new friend.
All in all, I'm liking this particular Baptist Church ive found. I grew up Lutheran, then Presbyterian, then soccer-mom-anominational, then I was an apostate. I was an apostate from about 12 years old to 24. Came back to Christ, got back to reading the Bible more often and praying sometimes. From there, I went to an Orthodox Church here and there, but never really got involved. To be honest, there are aspects of Orthodoxy that are a bit of a leap for me, making it almost too exotic. But then the corporate, washed-out mega churches are so soulless I can't stand them. This Baptist Church seems to be a nice middle ground.
