Solo vacation....where should I go?

I need a vacation, I need to just go soak my head for a while and forget about everything. I'm in between businesses right now and some challenges that I'm facing are moving really slow at the moment so it's a good time to go. My sister runs my remaining business and she has been pushing me to "just get the hell out of here" while I still can.

My friends want to party like rock stars there is no such things as relaxing with them. I'm not in the mood for that, I can fake it with them sometimes but it was never my cup of tea to begin with.

My relatives God bless them would move heaven and earth for me and if I told them I needed a vacation would just tell me where and when but that's a different kind of trip and I'm not looking for that either

Again just want to get my mind off of things while I can as things should start ramping up again for me soon and I've never really had the opportunity to just get up and go before. I would like to go outside the USA, I usually do Mexico but I want something different and Mexico I feel isn't very conducive to a solo vacation anyway.

I'm kinda open to anything, really don't want any super crazy flights though I really suffer on planes but I guess if it's worth it I would consider it.

Anyone have any ideas? I know not much info to go on but I would like to hear some raw ideas first. I have financial means and I'm looking to perhaps relax in a beautiful place, also don't mind adventure either....so yea haha pretty much open to any ideas

If you like Mexico, you should try Sayulita. Small beach town near Puerto Vallarta and easy to get to.
Less people. Small downtown with restaurants and pubs. Safe.

San Sebastián in Spain is another cool place with a nice beach but larger.

If you like history and don’t mind quiet beaches, there are some really great spots in Greece. Quiet islands like Agistri, Aegina, Kythira or Kea are typically off the heavy tourist routes. Rhodes is bustling, but beautiful, and Symi is wonderful as well. They each have neat historical locations in one form or another. Greeks are a happy bunch and you’ll find that it rubs off on most of the travelers there too. People are typically pretty happy to get away and have some Mediterranean sunshine.

There are plenty of very nice AirBnBs. Mexican people are generally some of the nicest and most accommodating.

Ehh...looking for something more accommodating. If I'm traversing Europe or something like that sure an Airbnb is fine but to be in one central beach location I would prefer a resort.

It depends how long of a vaction are we talking? 1 week? 2 weeks? 2 months? I think the answer will vary a lot based on that.

I think a week would be optimal, I'm a homebody and unless I'm taking some once in a lifetime trip, which I'm not, I don't think I would be want to gone for more than a week.

I always felt like Greece would be a place to take my woman, you think Greece is a place someone would enjoy solo?

If you just want a one week vacation the island of San Andres which is technically part of Colombia but is fairly far away from the Colombian mainlaind is a good destination. I have been there before. Nice climate, safe, crystal clear waters, nice beaches and excellent locations to go diving. And its not too expensive either (although not dirt cheap). A week is more than enough to see the whole island and go diving in multiple locations.

Very friendly people. Its a creole culture. People there tend to speak Spanish and English and Creole. Mostly blacks and mestizo people there. Has a very friendly Carribean vibe and crime is low. It is however a very touristic place. Basically the whole island is set up to cater to tourists.

Outstanding, I will look into it thank you

Resorts are usually in high tourist areas. You can probably find a small boutique hotel but I'll leave that up to you.

If you only want to go for one week, you're probably best off staying in North America. Panama could be a good choice for you. Years ago I visited the town of Boquete in the mountains, where there is a perfect climate and it's very relaxing and beautiful. For this reason it also attracts lots of expats. I've also heard good things about the islands of Bocas del Toro and San Blas in Panama. Some parts will be full of drunk 20 year-olds, some will be very peaceful and serene so you have to do your research.

It also may be reasonable to consider parts of Western Europe. Cities like Lisbon, Dublin, and Copenhagen can be reached directly from Chicago or New York. Then you rent a car and drive to some relaxing beach town. Northern Europe is better for this because many of the Southern locations get extremely crowded. Personally I really enjoyed the north coast of Jutland in Denmark, you could have the whole beach to yourself in some parts. But it is a long drive from a major airport.

Greece is amazing, but for a one week trip I would be hesitant to go anywhere outside the vicinity of Athens, which is easy to reach. And Athens alone is like an 11 hour flight from the US.

My first few trips to Greece were with a college group tour and then after that my wife and I honeymooned there. She fell in love with Greece and we went back several times. It is a great place to go with a spouse (my wife always cried the night before we departed—that’s how much she loved it).

There was a trip where she had to leave early because I had business in northern Greece with a colleague. As I awaited his arrival I had time and ventured out on my own and I enjoyed that too. If you like to relax and maybe soak in a book on a beach, Greece is great for that as well. Even as I walked Athens solo, I enjoyed the quiet reflection I could make at the various sights. I think it could be great whether you’re single or paired.

Mount Athos

As much as California sucks, San Diego is a fun place to visit. Lots to do, and more walkable/not completely insane traffic like LA. Lots of nice neighborhoods and beaches to hang out at and relax. Or you can hike, surf, mountain bike, etc. And we all know the weather is perfect.

A week would actually be ideal there.
