Secular Songs With Religious Themes

Some of my favorite music is secular songs that reference Christ or Christianity in some way. Why? Because they're not constrained by the usual template that seems to limit CCM which make the latter so boring to listen to...at least in IMO. Secular songs enjoy a higher creative ceiling as they can use any structure that other secular songs use, but still sneak in religious references.

Post your favorites. Here is one of mine...Mary's Prayer by Danny Wilson, a one-hit wonder from the 80s with such a heavy Christian influence to it; something you'd never hear these days on the radio.

Kanye West talks about how you can't talk about God or Jesus in mainstream music. He has always had controversial views.

He has a couple more from after he got canceled, but that one is still from earlier in his career.

Epica's got a hymn in three parts, called Kingdom of Heaven.
WARNING: Lyrics are, without a shadow of doubt, highly heretical, though not outright Satanic.

I don't think I've heard this song since the 70s but I remember it was a pretty big hit back in the day. BTW, Debbie Boone has a really sexy mouth...but what on God's green earth is she wearing here? It looks like she stumbled out of bed and threw on her robe to make the video.

The lyrics of this song are inspired by the story of Noah's Ark and themes from Psalm 55...

Oh that I had, the wing of a dove, to rest on me

This is not new to me
As I sit in this boat
But I'm so cold my bones, will freeze
And there's naught through the haze
I've been waiting so long
But my hour has gone, away

Oh that I had, the wing of a dove, to rest on me

This is not new to me
As I sit in this boat
But I'm so cold my bones, will freeze
And there's naught through the haze
I've been waiting so long
But my hour has gone, away

To fly back with, a branch in its beak, to rescue me.

Oh that I had, the wing of a dove, to rest on me

This is not new to me
As I sit in this boat
But I'm so cold my bones, will freeze

Oh that [4x]
Oh that I had, the wing of a dove, to rest on me

This is not new to me
As I sit in this boat
But I'm so cold my bones, will freeze
And there's naught through the haze
I've been waiting so long
But my hour has gone, away

He navigates, when I've lost my way
He reminds me, to lift my eyes

Oh that I had, the wing of a dove, to rest on me
