Nitter: Twitter/X Mirror

It's probably on its way out.

"Nitter currently relies on the mass generation of guest accounts, a weird anonymous form of account that was only supported by old versions of the Twitter app. Creation of them was totally disabled today, so every nitter instance will be dead in under 30 days (when they expire). Scrapers apparently also relied on this, as every public nitter instance was being hammered by scrapers earlier. Instances will probably shut down quite soon unless someone finds another way to create tens of thousands of accounts in an automated fashion for free."

"Nitter is over - It's been a fun ride
tl;dr - Twitter blocked the last known way to access their network without a user account.

Background
Over the last 2 years nitter.cz proxied over 10 Billion requests (>10,000,000,000) to Twitter, shielding you from tracking and ads, while providing a fast user interface. Nitter might be dead, but at the NoLog.cz collective we are still dedicated to providing the public with many more tools and services.
We never track our users, show ads or sell any data to any third party. Our infrastructure runs on our own bare-metal servers, and we are not dependent on any cloud provider. That doesn't mean it's free. Running our servers costs us ~600€/month, and we are only able to pay for it thanks to users who are pitching in.

Why is Nitter ending?
Over the last years, the main developer of Nitter, Zed, worked really hard to keep the project going. But Twitter worked just as hard on closing their network down and limiting any access they can't monetize.
Most Nitter servers were using a technique of generating loads of temporary tokens that were used for accessing the content, but that path is now blocked as well.

What to do now?
Don't trust corporations, especially those where one egomaniac has all the power. Use open-source and community driven solutions if you can (like Mastodon).
There might be a way to spin up a personal Nitter instance with your own account to keep the interface you are used to, but there is no guarantee this will work long-term. Unfortunately regular accounts can only support a small group of users, so running a public instance this way is not feasible."

Anyone have a good Twitter/X mirror? Nitter.net hasn't been working for me for a while now.

Add this extension in your browser:

Then you can choose which instances to put in your favorites and toggle through them until one works. There are a lot to choose from as shown in the screenshot below. This is a sample, there are other URL instances that don't use nitter but couldn't fit into this screenshot.

It works the same for the other sites listed besides Twitter such as for Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube. You can turn them on or off at any time. Once the extension is loaded, the browser will automatically use one of the alternative instances.

In this example, only Twitter and Instagram are turned on. If one of the alternative instances doesn't load, click on the circular arrows in the right column to try the next one. Keep toggling through them until you find one that works.

There are two RSS readers you can use to get access to Twitter without giving Twitter a shred of data on you:

RSS.app
Blur RSS Reader (paid)

Is this working properly on your computer?
When you click on an X link, it should redirect you to Xcancel to open the tweet.

I'm using the Tor browser and it worked yesterday, but not today.

Most of my Internet viewing is done on a tablet and I can't find any redirect add-on for Firefox Android.
Firefox Android, unlike the PC version, only has a fairly small handful of extensions available. If you want to use an extension outside of that list, you'll have to jump through a bunch of hoops designed for developers and it most likely won't work properly.
