That's the problem with Michigan all the beauty and fun is hours away......I can drive 20 minutes and be in the "country" but nothing is there, maybe a cider mill in the fall. I live in a small city and 20 minutes from me is an animal rescue I volunteer at and it's like a different world, but nothing to do out there it's just farms, construction yards and scattered houses. Hour away all touristy crap, 2 hours still touristy, 3 hours getting better but still touristy lake towns, 4 hours and you're getting to the good stuff......but the U P is about 7 hours at minimum. Never been up there to be honest which is kinda sad and I want to get to it eventually but my main friends are definitely not the type to be doing outdoorsy stuff like that as their first choice. Not to say they wouldn't enjoy it once we got there but if I tell them "hey lets take a weekend drive up north" they'll reply with "Frankie the flight to miami is shorter" haha
