It might be time to stop by your nearest mall or two and go to different stores and try on their specific jeans. Its honestly a pain in the ass seeing how widely different each store's jeans have their specific cut made. Even going by measurement isnt a sure thing seeing how one jean's specific length and width size (ex 32L 36W) from one store that fits you at store A might not be a good fit at Store B and you need to experiment with different sizes.
I had to go through this recently as I either wore out all my old jeans/pants or they became too large since I lost some weight. It doubly sucks since some of those Ive had for over 10-15 years so they definitely arent being made the same.
I tried on basically every cut style they had (that fit) like slim, modern slim fit, tapered, relaxed, straight, and probably some mix of these previously mentioned if available. Its also made harder due to the fact that stores are trying to push a baggy jeans fashion trend that was popular in the early 2000s. It just looks terrible on men and women and makes your wardrobe look sloppy compared to some well fitting pants or jeans.
For me, I used to wear Levis, Lees, and one fantastically cut pair of Tony Hawk pants. After my recent search and trial and error I've settled on mainly some Levis and Aeropostale which I'll have slightly tailored and Express jeans/pants which fit me perfectly. I cant find any Tony Hawk pants at nearby brick and mortar stores which is a shame because Id really like to see if their fits and styles are still the same. I used to get a lot of compliments on those jeans.
